Behind the scenes love for Pixar's "It Gets Better" message

It was just about a month ago that a group of us gathered in one of Pixar's conference rooms over lunch and hatched a plan. To take a cue from Darla's introduction, we wanted to use a little bit of our movie magic to join the chorus online reaching out to say "It Gets Better." In just a few hours we had a production team, a crew, and dozens of volunteers.

And this week we got to share it with the world:

My heart is so full right now and I am so overwhelmed with gratitude. Making this video has just been an endless series of beautiful moments and the last two days have just been a total whirlwind. I think it is safe to say that the response has already far exceeded our expectations.

To the incredible production team that pulled this together: Afonso, Daniel and Lauren. I am so blessed that you are in my life and honored to get the opportunity to make this reality with you.

To the 33 people who opened their hearts and souls to the camera. I am in awe of your courage and your talent.

Adrian, thank you for lending your mad drawing skills and kicking us off with that special Pixar style.

To our crew behind the camera. Tony, Erica & Sarah, thank you for donating your time and expertise to make this video look as good as any of our DVD extras.

To Bradley, for paring down 8 hours of footage to create a beautifully woven, tremendously moving narrative. We'd still be in the editing room if not for your vision and devotion. Daniel loves to praise Bradley's editing as an act of poetry—We all love to tease Daniel, but he's right.

To the band Geographer, for donating their music to the cause. Check them out, they are touring right now with Stars.

To all of our colleagues at Pixar. There are no words to truly describe the passion, artistry, thoughtfulness and respect that you bring to work day after day. You make every day on Park Ave something special.

To the Pixar & Disney leadership for supporting us at every step of the way.

Special thanks to Darla K. Anderson, producer extraordinaire. Thank you for your mentorship and pitch perfect introduction. You took our stories and made them universal.

Thank you Dan Savage for using your name and platform to start a movement. We are proud to have contributed our voices to the cause.

Finally, thank YOU. Thank you to every single one of you who watched this video and who felt moved by it.

The big picture is that while on the surface the It Gets Better Project is about the bulling of LGBTQ kids, it is really about kindness. If we all acted with a bit more kindness the world really would be a better place. So don't wait for the person next to you take the first step, each of us has a role and responsibility to make it better.
